Brakes, suspension and engine: proper mechanical work

Plenty of 10- and 20-year-old cars are very well looked after and deserve a mechanic who treats them with the same care. Peedo specialises in in-depth mechanical work: brakes, suspension, timing, coolant leaks and exhausts. We find the fault by sound, by checking for play and by road-testing, we only replace what's really needed and we show you the part we replaced.

What we see every week

  • Something is noisy at the wheels or over speed bumps.
  • The car brakes weakly or pulls to one side.
  • It's losing coolant or overheating.
  • It makes a strange noise on a cold start.

Repair rather than throw away

A seized brake caliper or a handbrake that doesn't hold is often replaced as a whole unit, because many dealers don't bother cleaning them. When they can be saved, we clean and restore the mechanism.

Cars we know especially well

  • Volkswagen group (1.9 TDI and petrol engines): Golf IV and V, Passat B5 and B6, Caddy, Transporter T4 and T5.
  • Seat and Skoda: Octavia I and II, Fabia.
  • Toyota: Corolla, Avensis, Hilux and RAV4.
  • Honda: Civic and CR-V.
  • Dacia Duster and Logan; Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner.

And any other make: we're a multi-brand garage.

Frequently asked questions

Brakes, suspension and engine

Is it worth repairing a car that's more than 10 years old?

If it's been looked after, almost always. We tell you what it needs now and what's worth planning for, so you can decide with real numbers. Peedo, Karsen's mechanic, prefers to repair properly what can be fixed rather than simply replace it.

Will you show me the part you replaced?

Yes. We show you the replaced part and the cause of the problem, so you can check for yourself.

Do you do welding?

Yes, on exhausts and flexi pipes, although it isn't our main work.

Do you repair brakes or replace them completely?

It depends on their condition. If a caliper is sticking or the handbrake isn't working, it can often be cleaned and restored instead of replacing the whole part. It's a job that takes time and skill, and it saves you money.
